Finance Monthly Legal Awards 2022 USA Founder and Managing Attorney Employment Law Center of Maryland Joseph Gibson About Joseph Gibson Joseph W. Gibson is the founder and Managing Attorney of the Employment Law Center of Maryland. An emerging leader in civil and workers’ rights, Joe represents Maryland workers with discrimination, harassment, and wage theft cases. He litigates cases in both state and federal court, as well as before administrative agencies such as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission—but always on behalf of workers. In addition to his robust discrimination and harassment practice, Joe is known for his skill in wage theft cases and has successfully recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid wages for Maryland workers. A champion of the Employment Law Center of Maryland’s pithy motto, “we sue bad bosses,” Joe has represented Maryland workers against some of the largest corporations in the United States, and the world. Joe’s clients describe him as “one of the best in the field,” and frequently praise the kindness and compassion he maintains alongside his fierce advocacy on their behalf. He skillfully guides clients through every stage of their employment case, from discovery and settlement negotiations through trial. Joe is a proud member of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), the United States’ largest professional workers’ rights legal association, and has been appointed to NELA’s Ethics and Sanctions Committee, where he assists other workers’ rights attorneys facing sanctions or ethics proceedings around the United States. Joe writes and speaks often on the need to transform the practice of law to close the “access to justice gap,” and make civil legal representation available to more Americans. Joe earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts from the George Washington University. He clerked for the Hon. Harry C. Storm, Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. Firm Profile The Employment Law Center of Maryland is a novel 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal aid organization serving economically distressed workers in the state of Maryland.
